Chilean lad tops on first day Of show jumping
A group of eight youngsters competing in the FEI Children's International Jumping Finals cleared their rounds with no faults on the second day of the event held on Tuesday at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club premises. The day featured the First Qualification Competition. Of these eight jumpers, Tomas Munoz from Chile tops the list with 29 points riding Adonis clearing the rounds in 63.21 seconds. Syrian rider Mohammed Jabri was in second place with 27 points partnering Al Bahar (65.98 seconds). Two UAE riders Ayesha Al Shamsi and Madelaine Wilson were in fifth and sixth places with 24 and 23 points respectively. Ayesha rode Ograaf D'Adriers (69.41 seconds) and Madelaine was on Carino 7 (71.51 seconds). Third and fourth places are currently occupied by German rider Nele Graffmuller and Qatari rider Abdullah Talib Al Marri. A total number of 23 riders took part in this round and five have already been eliminated and these riders will take the arena in the second qualification competition. The second competition is against the clock but in the event of equality of penalties for the first place, there will be a jump-off against-the-clock. Thursday will feature two competitions: the Farewell competitions which is open to all participants not qualified for the Finals and the Final Competition itself with the qualified riders. The first 16 riders will get prizes and medals. The four-day event was inaugurated on Monday by HRH Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, FEI President and wife of UAE Prime Minister and Vice President and Dubai Ruler His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The competition is organized by the Emirates Equestrian Federation with the cooperation of FEI and the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, and is sponsored by Park Rotana Abu Dhabi, Al Awani General Enterprises and Maximum Air Cargo.
