UAE jumpers shine in Qatar Championship
A group of 16 show jumpers from the UAE are taking part in the Qatar International National Day Show Jumping Championship and Founder Cup which began at the Qatar Equestrian Federation on Sunday, December 21, 2009. Around 192 riders representing Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Yemen, Syria, Spain, Lebanon, Egypt, Spain and Britain are participating in the QAR 755,000 championship. The championship is a crucial round in the Arab Show Jumping League, as the winners qualify to the World Equestrian Games 2010 in Kentucky, USA. The UAE team includes Sheikh Shakhbout Al Nahyan, Sheikh Majid Al Qasimi, Mohammad Ghanim Al Hajri, Aref Ahmad, Khalid Al Junaibi, Ahmed Abdul Rahman Amin, Ahmed Al Junaibi, Mohammad Ketait, Adel Khamis, Abdullah Hamid, Omran Al Uwais, Rashed Al Rumaithi, Abdulla Al Marri, Salem Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Salem Khamis Al Suwaidi and Saif bin Shahi. In Class 6 Category UAE riders Ahmed Al Junaibi and Abdullah Al Marri won the first and third places respectively. Juanibi partnered with Picobello Wodiena and completed the round in 61.07 seconds with no faults to pocket QAR 20,000 whereas Al Marri rode Randor K and completed the round in 63.89 seconds to clinch the purse for QAR 12,000. In Class 1 Category ride for Junior and Young Riders, UAE rider Salem Ahmed Al Suwaidi swept off the first three places partnering Natalie 079, Tisanto and Solito respectively and received a total prize money of QAR 33,000.
