Saudi rider wins ladies championship
Latifa Al Sheikh from Saudi Arabia became ladies endurance champion when she won the Sheikha Latifa bint Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan endurance ride on January 22, 2010. The 90-km ride, run in four stages of 30km, 24km, 20km and 16 km, was held ay the Emirates International Endurance Village, Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi. She was riding 14-year-old grey gelding Coolaroo Jubal and completed the distance in 3 hrs, 10 minutes and 17 seconds riding on an average 28.38km an hour. Just four minutes ahead of Morocco's Maha Khalid finished second on Princess Diana TE. Her timing was 3hrs, 14 minutes, 49 seconds. Third place went to Estonian Kaja Tuist on Chazar Queen of Hearts. She clocked 3 hours, 16 minutes, 11 seconds. "This is my third ride in the UAE and I have finished second in the other two. I am very happy and today's effort was a perfect one. I enjoyed the ride" Latifa said. "I have been involved in show jumping from when I was just four and took to endurance three years ago," she added. The ride carried a total purse of Dh 500,000 including two cars. The ride was sponsored by Bonyan International Investment Group, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Al Medmar Magazine and Wathba Stud Farm. The ride was held under the directives of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
