Hamdan Mousa wins Zayed bin Mansour Endurance Cup
Hamdan Mousa Mohammad Al Hammadi won the first place in the 100-km Sheikh Zayed bin Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Endurance Cup Ride for Private Owners held at the Emirates International Endurance Village in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, January 23, 2010. Hamdan was riding 10-yesr-old chestnut gelding Leo Shanty to complete the ride in three hours, 49 minutes and 11 seconds riding on an average speed of 26.18 kmph. The ride was run in loops of 32km, 28 km, 24km and 16 km respectively. Ahmad Ali Amer Omar Al Hadrami, who finished in the second place on Rowallan Shanty and Hamdan had a close fight at the fourth loop but eventually Hamdan was declared the winner. Ahmad led after the first stage of 32km and Hamdan was second at that stage. After the next stage of 28km, Ahmad kept the lead but Hamdan eased off a bit. In the penultimate stage of 24km Hamdan made his move and established a two-minute lead over Ahmad which proved decisive over the final loop of 16 km. After his triumph, Hamdan told the media persons that this was his first win in the open category having already won at the President's Cup for Juniors in 2008 and 2009. He also added that this was the first time he partnered with Leo. Mattar Suhail Al Yabhouni, who trained Hamdan's horse, said that the Al Ain Stables were very delighted as rides for private owners gives big boost for small stables. As many as 50 riders took part in the ride out of whom 13 successfully completed the distance. The ride carried a purse of Dh500,000 including two cars and was sponsored by Bonyan International Investment Group LLC, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Al Medmar magazine and Al Wathba Stud Farm.
