President Cup Jumping details announced
The President of the UAE Show Jumping Championship Cup was officially announced at a press conference at the Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club, GRPC, on Wednesday by Taleb Dhaher Al Muhairi, Secretary General, Emirates Equestrian Federation. Addressing media persons, Mr. Muhairi said eleven nations will be sending their teams to first ever CSIO5* jumping event to be held in the Middle East region from February 3 to 6, 2010, at the Ghantoot Club. The show offers a prize money of 500,000 Euros in total. The President of the UAE Cup will see some of the world's top riders including riders from Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Holland, Switzerland and Italy. Notable among them are current world champion Jos Lansink from Belgium, Rolf Goran Bengtsson, 2008 Olympic Silver Medallist, Juan Carlos Garcia, 2009 Team Silver show jumping and Team Bronze eventing medallist, Switzerland's reigning European Team Clarissa Crotta, Ben Meher and Robert Smith from Great Britain, and several others. Mr. Muhairi said that the President of the Show Jumping Cup is one of the richest competitions in the region. There will be as many as 57 riders from 16 nations participating in this Nation Cup series which comprises Longines Nations Cup and Emaar Grand Prix The President of the UAE Show Jumping Cup. He also said Ghantoot was chosen as the venue because of its state-of-the-art facilities with modern equipment to hold such big events. He thanked the HE Sheikh Falah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Ghantoot Club for providing the venue and also for providing the cooperation to organise such a big event. He further added another reason to choose Ghantoot Club for the event was for its proximity to both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Mr. Salem Abdulla Salem Al Shamsi, Assistant Managing Director, GRPC, stated that under the instructions of Sheikh Falah, all facilities have been made available for the championship. Internationally renowned Course designer Olaf Petersen will be designing the course. “The Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club is situated in an ideal place and we will provide all the facilities needed for the success of such a show," said Mr. Saeed bin Houfan Al Mansouri from GRPC. Mr. Talal Al Hashmi, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, supports of the event, said that at ADSC, their aim was to support five top international events every year and this event is one of them. Mr. Sameer Ramadan representing one of the sponsors Maximum Cargo, said that their company was once again proud to be associated with jumping after the success of the FEI International Show Jumping Final for Children which was held in Abu Dhabi in december last year. Mr. Urs Schiendorfer, representing another major sponsor Longines, said that they were proud to be associated with the CSIO5* event and it is an honour for their company to be associated with the first President of the UAE Show Jumping Cup to be held in the country. There will be three cars in the main raffle draw every day with several other prizes as attractions, according to Mr. Muhairi.
