All set for biggest jumping event in the country
Ms Martina, the media persons were introduced to the current world champion from Belgium Jos Lansink, a member of Switzerland's reigning European Champion team Clarissa Crotta and Irish rider who was placed fourth in the European Championship in 2009 Cameron Hanley. Also present at the press conference were Capt. John P.Rochev, President of the Appeal Committee and Mr.Volker Wulff, member of the Organising Committee from En Garde Marketing GMBH, consultants for the event. At the outset, Mr. Muhairi said Abu Dhabi was proud to host one of the best show jumping events in the world and it was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to see the world’s top riders on one common platform. Mr. Volker Wulff said that he was very impressed with the arrangements being made at the Ghantoot Club. He said nations Cup was one of the best shows in the world and the Abu Dhabi event carried the biggest prize money of Euros 100,000 followed by Euros 300,000 for the Grand Prix The UAE President of the UAE Show Jumping Cup, which is unprecedented in the jumping discipline. Irish rider Cameron Hanley announced at the press conference that his team members have decided to donate the prize money to the Haiti Disaster Fund. He said it was a personal decision Mr. Wulff also added that it was a privilege to have Jos Lansink, who is one of the most successful show jumpers in the world today and Cameron Hanley who has a lot of experience behind him. Clarissa Crotta the lone rider from Switzerland thanked the EEF for extending an invitation for her to participate in the event and she hoped for good results which will give her more points to elevate her in the world ranking. Jos Lansink said he is looking forward for the competitions and when questioned about acclimatisation for the horses, “we are enjoying the weather as much as the horses.’’ Meanwhile the horses from the Irish and British teams which have already arrived in the Ghantoot Club have entered their huge boxes in the fully air conditioned stables. The facility is unparalleled: The 120 by 80 metre grass ring will be the stage for the Nations Cup. Friday 4 pm, it will be getting serious for the Nations Cup teams from Denmark, Egypt, Great Britain, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Saudi Arabia, The Netherlands, Qatar, Sweden and The United Arab Emirates while the Longines Nations Cup will begin. The President of the UAE Show jumping Cup starts on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. with a two-phase competition for the CSI1* competitors, the Maximus Air Cargo Trophy. It is followed by the opening competition for the international elite, also a two-phase competition, and then spectators and participants will be able to enjoy the opening ceremonies which will start at 7 p.m. The final competition of the day, a speed class, will be held under the floodlights. Mr Muhairi said one of the main attractions at the jumping event will be the Highest Optical creation in jumping, a replica of Burj Khalifa and he said the EEF was staking claim for its uniqueness at the Guinness Book Of world Records. He also added that the entertainment area is also very vast with kiosks, tuck shops, eateries and play areas for youngsters making it an ‘ideal day out for the entire family” as there will be hundreds of prizes apart from one car a day in the raffle.
