HH THE PRESIDENT OF THE UAE ENDURANCE CUP Al Reef rider Baloushi is the champion
Al Reef Stables was at the winning game yet again with its star rider Sultan Ahmad Al Baloushi clinching the HH The President of the United Arab Emirates Endurance Cup at the Emirates International Endurance Village, Abu Dhabi, On Saturday, February 13, 2010. Riding 13-year-old Chestnut gelding Charlandre El Sharif, Sultan Ahmed finished the 160-km, six-loop ride in 6:21:12 seconds riding on an average speed of 25.18 kmph. He won Dh1.5 million in prize money and also broke his own world speed record by seven minutes to win this prestigious event. The event featured as many as 106 riders and several riders from major European countries were invited by the Al Wathba Stables to participate in this annual event which is named after the President of the country. As many 24 riders finished the ride successfully. The ride was attended by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Dubai Ruler, Sheikh Hamden bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and several other dignitaries. Ali Khalfan Al Jahouri who fought tooth and nail till the finish to grab the coveted first position had to cede to the riding charisma of Baloushi and had to be happy in the second place, though he missed the top place by just a second. He finished a second ahead of Baloushi at 6:21.13 but both their average speed was the same at 25.18 kmph. Khalfan was riding 12-year-old grey gelding Kalifa from Al Wathba Stables. He expressed his disappointment to the gathered media later blaming it on bad luck. He has reasons to be upset as he has already won major championships many times including the National day Cup and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Cup but the President Cup victory has eluded him so far. Third place went to Majed Mohammed Salman Al Sabri who rode nine-year-old chestnut gelding Armin S Zulu owned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He recorded a timing of 6;27:33 and the average speed was 24.77 kmph.
