Emirates Jumping Championship In Al Ain from March 18
As many as 200 competitors will be taking part in the 11th Emirates Show Jumping Championship which will be held at the Palm Sports Resort in Al Ain from Thursday, March 18 to 20, 2010. The event, held under the patronage of EEF Chairman HE Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyn and Palms Sports Resort Chairman HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, is organized and coordinated by Emirates Equestrian Federation. The Palm Sports Resort is opening its doors for the first time for such a big equestrian sport. The competitions will attract Category A, B, C and D riders but Championship Classes are confined to the UAE nationals only. But all nationalities are allowed to participate in the Open Class every day. The first day of the competitions will begin at 5 pm, second day will be at 3.00 pm and on the final day the competitions will begin at 9 am. Fences will range from 95 cm to 150 cm. The Championship comprise competitions each taking place on a different day. The total penalties incurred at the end of the three competitions will count to determine the final placing. Riders eliminated or retired from any round are not eligible to participate in subsequent rounds/competitions. Officials for the three-day championship include Ms Lisa Hareb, President, Ground Jury, Mr. Khalil Ibrahim, Mr. Ashraf El Laithi and Mr. Hassan Mousa (judges), Mr. Atef Shawky (NF Representative), Miss Rana Essa (Event Coordinator), Mr. Ali Mohajeer (Chief Steward), Mrs Chirstine Gruber (Arena Steward), Mr. Volker Schmitt (Course Designer), Dr. Hallvard Sommerseth and Dr. Adeeb Mehsen (Veterinarians). Mr Taleb Dhaher Al Muhairi, Secretary General, Emirates Equestrian Federation, said on the eve of the event, that it was indeed a big step forward for the Federation which has been organsing the emirates Jumping championship for over a decade now. He said the jumping discipline has grown tremendously in the last few years and the current season itself featured two of the world's top events- FEI International children's Final and The President of the UAE Show Jumping Championship. While the former was held at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, Ghantoot Racing and polo Race played host for the President's cup which was held in the Middle East region for the first time.
