Pyse wins President Cup in Moscow
Pyse, trained by Oksana Samokhina and ridden by Zabek Kapushev won the Emirates Equestrian Federation's HH The President of the UAE Cup (Group 1) Moscow Derby in Moscow on Sunday, July 4, 2010. Pyse is bred by Khrenovoskoy Stud. The event featured eight four-year-old Pure-bred Arabian horses and Pyse owner Lay Mikhaltsova picked up the winning cheque of 345,000 roubles. Pyse registered a eight- length win over Bagrein ridden by A. Alberdiev and trained by A. Derov. Third place went to Patrick partnered by rider V. Markov. The President of the UAE Cup was marking the sixth year at the Moscow Hippodrome and the race featured only Pure-bred Arabian horses. The President Cup, which carried a prize money of 720,000 Russian roubles, was held along with the Abu Dhabi Stakes, also for Purebred Arabians (Group 3). Three-year-old Pagur, also from the Khrenovoskoy Stud, ridden by Anotoly Krishin, gave its fans a big treat by clinching the 1,600-meter Abu Dhabi Stakes. Second and third places in this event went to Duglik and Blade, respectively. The races were attended by several dignitaries, diplomats and Ambassadors of some GCC countries. Mr. Ali Yousef Obaid Al Nuaimi, Second Secretary at the UAE Embassy in Moscow, Mr. Abdul Rahman Al Mazmi, also from the UAE Embassy in Moscow and Mr Taleb Dhaher Al Muhairi, Secretary General of the Emirates Equestrian Federation, distributed the trophies to the winners in the presence of a huge crowd. Taleb Dhaher Al Muhairi said he was thrilled by the success of the races in Moscow. “Moscow has always provided a comfort zone for the Arabian races and it is a pleasure to return to the Russian soil, where the Pure-bred Arabian horses get a real boost. “The President Cup Series has been very successful ever since it was launched in 1994 and Moscow was added to the calendar in 2005. The Emirates Equestrian Federation, as the organizers of the event, are immensely pleased with the support extended by the Moscow racing officials. “These races are the realization of a dream to boost Pure-bred Arabians and I thank the EEF Chairman His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan for his continuous support .” Mr. Ali Yousef Obaid Al Nuaimi said such races are essential to build good relationship between countries. “It has been six years since the EEF started the President Cup in Moscow and over the years the interest in Pure-bred Arabians has grown enormously with the large crowd being the ample proof.” He said it was especially important to note that the races had the attendance of several GCC Ambassadors and citizens. “The President of the UAE Cup has become a house-hold name in Russia, thanks to the efforts of the officials involved in boosting the Pure-bred Arabians.” Mr. Nasser Al Mazin, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Russia said: “The UAE presence in Moscow has made all the GCC countries proud. The UAE is making extraordinary efforts in spreading the awareness about the Arabians not only in the GCC countries but all over the globe.” He thanked President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces General His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and EEF President HE Dr. Sheikh Sultan for supporting these races, which paves way for better ties between countries. Mr Ahmed Al Hajri, Bahraini Ambassador to Russia congratulated the EEF for its support to Arabian horses. “It is big task undertaken by the Federation in holding these races and it makes the GCC countries in general and the UAE in Particular, proud to be part of this series.” Sunday’s HH The President of the UAE Cup (Group 1) was the third in the series after Curragh in Ireland and St Cloud in France. Newmarket and Ascot in the United Kingdom and Keenland in the US will stage the rest of the series.
