Strong field of eight for UAE President Cup in Newmarket
The Julian Smart-trained Jaafer owned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, winner of the US $250,000 Dubai Kahayla Classic on Dubai World Cup meeting in Meydan in March heads a eight-horse field at the Abu Dhabi International Stakes, a Group 2 race for Purebred Arabians, which will be run on July 7, 2010 at the Newmarket race course in Great Britain. The race is part of the His Highness the President of the UAE Championship Cup Series 2010, which is sponsored by the Emirates Equestrian Federation. Jaafer, to be ridden by Alan Munro, will be joined by stablemate Mu’azzaz under Ted Durcan as Julian Smart, the former Abu Dhabi-based trainer makes a strong bid in this Emirates Equestrian Federation race. Leading a strong challenge to Jaafer is Nashwan Al Khalidiah from the Saudi Arabia-based Al Khalidiah stables. Nashwan, trained by Jean Francois Bernard will be ridden by Christophe Lemaire. Nashwan Al Khalidiah finished seventh in the Kahayla Classic (Group 1) after Jaafer scored a 5-length win over favourite No Risk Al Maury. With Christophe Lemaire on the Saudi hope, a strong contest is on the cards. Gillian Duffield’s Thimaar, a five-year-old mare with limited exposure will try to give the trainer of No Risk Al Maury a chance to take revenge in this Group 2 race. French-bred Thimmar is owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler and UAE Minister of Finance. Altobello, Noble Athlete, Suhaim and Tidarbret complete the 8-horse field in this race which will be run over a distance of 1600 metres for a total prize of 30,000 Pounds. In 2009, Fryvolous, owned by the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, had won the Abu Dhabi International Stakes (Group 2) . The day will also feature a class field of eight for the Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes for Thoroughbred fillies . They include Lillie Langtry, Special Duty, Gile Na Greiene, Lahaleeb, Strawberrydaiquiri, Spacious, Music Show and Rainfall. Taleb Dhaher Al Muhairi, Secretary General of the Emirates Equestrian Federation, said in a statement that he is happy to be back yet again at the Newmarket Racecourse which has a fantastic field this season. He added: “The Emirates Equestrian Federation has a longstanding association with Newmarket Racecourses dating back to several years. The races have played an integral role in helping the EEF promote the Purebred Arabian horse to a worldwide audience. " In the past, Newmarket Racecourses has been a keen supporter of the President of the UAE Cup Series for Purebred Arabian horses, which takes place annually in European cities throughout the summer. It is the first international series of this kind and continues to be regarded as the premier series for the breed. Newmarket itself has a rich racing history dating back to hundreds of years. After successful racing in Curragh in Ireland, St Cloud in Paris and Moscow in Russia, the fourth installment of The President Cup Series 2010 is being held in Newmarket.
